Scorcese to produce "Silence"

One of my favorite filmmakers has apparently secured the funding to make the movie based on one of my favorite books, "Silence" by Shusaku Endo.  Yay!  Story here.

Thanks. As a fan of both director and book, this is very good news. As long as he doesn’t cast Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead, a weakness he seems to have, we should be in good shape.

...or Harvey Keitel as Ferreira.

I recall a news story from a few years ago that Daniel Day-Lewis and Benicio del Toro were slated to star in the movie. Don't know if they are still available, but Day-Lewis would be a good choice for Rodrigues and del Toro for Ferreira (or vice versa?).
