As I say in this Philadelphia Inquirer
story, I'm delighted (and surprised) by the election of Cardinal Bergoglio. He has a remarkable range of experiences--university professor, Jesuit novice master and provincial, spiritual director, and bishop. And I could be wrong about this, but I believe he may be the first pope with graduate training in the natural sciences (a master's degree in chemistry). There will be much celebration in my home this evening: my wife is from Buenos Aires.
